Pivot!!!! Lesson's Learned from a Drive-In Haunted Attraction

In 2019, Haunted Calgary took advantage of a great opportunity to move from our home to a commercial location in a mall parkade. Things went well and we were poised for a great season in 2020. Then COVID hit. Like many, we wondered whether we could open safely and ultimately decided it wasn't worth the risks for our region. At the last minute, we decide to do a complete pivot to a drive-in attraction. We had just over two weeks to pull it off, but our hard-working Scream Team did it! We are so proud of what we managed to accomplish, but we learned many lessons. With the 2021 season questionable, we'd like to share our lessons learned, discuss with others who attempted similar alternative haunts, and move our industry forward for the upcoming season. We will cover safety, scares, logistics, marketing, liability, and more.

Christine Campbell

Christine has been haunting since childhood. She is the Creative Director of Haunted Calgary Productions Inc., in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 2019, Haunted Calgary made the leap from a home haunt to a commercial location and when COVID hit in 2020, made a very quick pivot to test out a drive-in attraction. Christine is learning from all of the incredible mentors in the haunt industry and looks forward to West Coast Haunters Convention as often as she can afford to attend.
